Job description

Our key client in the Berkshire area is looking for a revenues inspector who is proficient on Academy EV and has excellent knowledge of CTAX as well as NDR.

This post will monitor properties across the borough, ensuring that bills are correctly issued to maximise tax revenue for the Council. The post holder is required to liaise with colleagues in council tax and business rates, undertaking visits to gather evidence to support the issue of annual and ad hoc bills, and to offer reassurance that any exemptions, discounts and reliefs have been properly applied, within legislative provisions.

Prioritise and conduct visits to properties and customers in the borough to ensure that charges are levied correctly to comply with legislation. Review and verify claims for exemptions, discounts and reliefs and gather information to assist in the appropriate recovery of taxes. Make and maintain a regular cycle of inspections of empty properties, identifying and carrying out work on all cases that need further investigation, including taking statements and obtaining evidence, as required.

Inspect newly erected and altered properties, serving completions notices and updating the VOA, where required. Maintain and update spreadsheets with findings.

Inspect demolitions, splits, mergers or changes of use, and report as appropriate to the VOA. Use information provided by the Planning Department with regard to street naming and numbering.

Accurately record findings of inspections using the appropriate computer systems and ensure evidence, including digital photographs, is securely stored.
Answer queries and provide advice to customers, agents and other agencies, in person, by telephone or by letter. Report any cases where there may be a welfare issue.

Work flexibly, undertaking other work which is commensurate with the grade of the post and complying with departmental procedures and generic legislation, including data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety provisions.
