Independent Reviewing Officer / Conference Chair - Children's Services

Type: Full-time | Contract

Barnsley Children's Services is currently seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) / Conference Chair to join our committed team. This is a key role focused on driving care planning, promoting stability and permanence, and championing the voice of looked after children and young people.

Key Responsibilities:

Chairing looked after children reviews, ensuring all meetings are held face-to-face in line with best practice

Conducting face-to-face visits with each young person between review meetings

Ensuring IRO midway reviews take place to track progress against plans

Overseeing and quality assuring the planning and review process for every young person

Promoting aspirational and outcome-focused care plans

Advocating for young people and ensuring their views are central to the review process

Working collaboratively with multi-agency partners to deliver effective planning and safeguarding

About You:
We are looking for a professional who is:

Passionate about improving outcomes for looked after children

A strong advocate for young people

Experienced in chairing complex multi-agency meetings

Knowledgeable about the legal and regulatory frameworks for looked after children (Care Planning Regulations and IRO Handbook)

Confident in managing and influencing care planning across services

Experienced across various statutory children's social work teams, particularly with looked after children
