Lewisham Council is seeking an experienced Child Protection Chair to join their safeguarding team. This is a pivotal leadership role where you'll be responsible for ensuring that child protection conferences are effective, statutory procedures are met, and the best interests of children are at the forefront of every decision.
Key Responsibilities:Chairing Child Protection Conferences and safeguarding meetings
Making decisive, child-centred decisions on protection plans
Coordinating multi-agency contributions and ensuring statutory compliance
Monitoring and auditing the implementation and impact of protection plans
Leading and facilitating challenging discussions with families and professionals
Applying best practices, ideally including Signs of Safety methodology
Contributing to service improvement through audits and reflective practice
Essential Requirements:Extensive experience as a Child Protection Chair
Proven expertise in chairing complex CP conferences
Solid understanding of child protection legislation, procedures, and frameworks
Social Work England registration and relevant professional qualification
Strong decision-making, communication, and leadership skills
Experience with Signs of Safety approach (desirable)

Key Responsibilities:Chair Looked After Children (LAC) reviews and act as Duty Child Protection Chair as required.
Ensure statutory obligations are met and best outcomes are achieved for children with Child Protection Plans and those who are Looked After.
Support and promote the voice of the child in all care planning discussions and decisions.
Monitor the quality and timeliness of care plans, ensuring compliance with local and national standards.
Challenge underperformance through established monitoring and escalation protocols.
Provide effective oversight of safeguarding practice, escalating concerns and driving continuous improvement.
Essential Experience and Qualifications:Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
5+ years post-qualification experience within statutory children's services.
Proven experience chairing statutory meetings and managing performance within children's teams.
Strong knowledge of legislation, statutory responsibilities, and best practices around child protection and looked after children.
Experience in supervision, leadership, and the ability to challenge poor practice constructively.
