Are you a passionate and dedicated social worker looking to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families? Join our Together for Families Team in Reading as a Children's Social Worker. In this role, you will work collaboratively with families, children, and various stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of children, while promoting positive family dynamics and resilience.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Conducting assessments to identify the needs of children and families. Developing and implementing tailored support plans in partnership with families. Providing direct support and intervention to children and families in crisis. Collaborating with schools, health services, and community organizations to coordinate resources. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records in compliance with legal and organizational standards.

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following essential qualifications and skills:

A recognized social work qualification (e.g., Degree in Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent). Registration with the appropriate social work regulatory body. Strong understanding of child protection legislation, safeguarding practices, and family dynamics. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with families and professionals. Proven experience in working with children and families in a social work context.

Pay Rate: Up to £42 per hour (umbrella)
Working Pattern: Hybrid - 2 days in the office
Job Location: Reading, Berkshire

Reading Borough Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their dynamic Single Point of Access (SPA) / MASH Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast-paced, multi-agency environment where your decisions directly impact the safety and wellbeing of children.

The council supports flexible working, offering a hybrid model with just 2 days per week in the office, giving you the work-life balance you need while contributing meaningfully to children's safeguarding.

Key Responsibilities:

Screen and triage incoming referrals to assess risk and determine thresholds for statutory intervention.

Collaborate with multi-agency professionals (health, police, education) to gather and analyse information for safeguarding decisions.

Make informed and timely decisions regarding the safety and protection of children.

Apply evidence-based frameworks such as Signs of Safety in decision-making.

Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues within the MASH and broader safeguarding teams.

Maintain accurate records and ensure decisions comply with local and statutory procedures.

Essential Requirements:

Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.

Experience working in a MASH, SPA, or Front Door team is essential.

Strong knowledge of safeguarding frameworks, risk assessment, and child protection legislation.

Ability to make clear and timely threshold decisions in a high-pressure environment.

Confident communicator and effective collaborator with multi-agency partners.
