Southwark Council is seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join the Safeguarding Front Door (Contact) Team. This is a critical frontline role where you'll be the first point of professional contact for adults at risk of abuse or neglect, ensuring timely and legally compliant safeguarding responses.
? Key Responsibilities:
Receive, screen, and prioritise incoming safeguarding referrals in accordance with the Care Act 2014 and Southwark's Multi-Agency Safeguarding Procedures
Conduct initial risk assessments to determine thresholds for Section 42 enquiries
Liaise effectively with professionals, families, police, health, and internal services to gather and verify information
Apply the Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP) principles to deliver person-centred interventions
Accurately document professional decision-making and escalate high-risk concerns where appropriate
Offer expert advice and guidance on safeguarding thresholds and Care Act duties
Identify and initiate urgent safeguarding actions or safety planning where needed
Make appropriate referrals to specialist teams such as Learning Disabilities, Mental Health, or Hospital Discharge
Maintain clear and compliant case records using Mosaic
? Requirements:
Social Work England registration
Minimum of 2 years' post-qualifying experience, preferably within adult safeguarding
Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, safeguarding processes, and triage/assessment frameworks
Proficient in multi-agency working and confident in managing complex referrals
Excellent risk analysis, communication, and documentation skills

About the Role
The Royal Borough of Greenwich is looking for a passionate and experienced Social Worker to join the Joint Emergency Team (JET) - a fast-paced, integrated multi-professional service delivering urgent interventions to adults in crisis.
JET works 7 days a week (8am-8:30pm) and is composed of expert practitioners across Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, GPs, and Social Work. The team supports individuals aged 18+ who are registered with a Greenwich GP and live within the borough, aiming to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and enable people to remain safely at home.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver strengths-based assessments and co-produce care solutions using a person-centred approach
Respond rapidly to urgent referrals via Virtual Ward, 111, GPs, D2A, LAS, and the Contact and Assessment Team
Participate in the provision of short-term social care packages and safeguarding interventions
Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver integrated, holistic care
Contribute to the delivery of Continuing Healthcare (CHC) assessments - experience in this is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided
Maintain high standards of record-keeping and ensure timely completion of all documentation
