Nottingham City Council is looking for an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join their Adult Safeguarding Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled practitioner to contribute to the protection and well-being of vulnerable adults in the city.
Key Requirements:
Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience in permanent roles within Local Authorities
Proven experience in Adult Safeguarding work, including conducting safeguarding enquiries under the Care Act 2014
Strong skills in multi-agency working, risk assessment, and collaborative care planning
Solid understanding of safeguarding policies, legal frameworks, and best practice
Registered with Social Work England
Main Duties:
Undertake Section 42 Enquiries and other safeguarding investigations
Work collaboratively with partner agencies to deliver timely and appropriate safeguarding interventions
Engage with individuals, families, carers, and professionals to identify and manage risks
Contribute to case conferences, strategy discussions, and review meetings
Maintain accurate and high-quality case records

Role Overview:
Work with individuals with mental health needs within acute hospital settings and the wider community.
Undertake timely Care Act assessments to support safe and effective discharge planning.
Liaise and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) including ward staff, psychiatrists, and community teams.
Promote a Home First approach, ensuring person-centred planning, safeguarding awareness, and strength-based support.
Complete Mental Capacity Assessments (MCA) and best interest decisions where required.
Essential Requirements:
Social Work England registration
Minimum 2 years' experience in a mental health setting, including working in or with acute hospitals
Solid knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and discharge planning legislation
Confidence working within hospital wards and multi-agency environments
Additional Information:
Must be able to visit local hospitals and community settings in Nottinghamshire.

The Role
This is a vital and rewarding role for an experienced Qualified Social Worker who will:
Undertake and lead Section 42 enquiries as outlined in the Care Act 2014, ensuring timely, proportionate and person-centred responses to safeguarding concerns.
Identify and assess risks to adults who may be experiencing or at risk of abuse or neglect, including physical, financial, sexual, organisational, discriminatory and self-neglect.
Work closely with key partners in the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), including Police, NHS, Housing, Advocacy and Mental Health services.
Contribute to Safeguarding Adults Reviews (SARs), root cause analysis, and wider service learning initiatives.
Support decision-making and case progression through supervision, best-interest discussions, and legal planning where required (including MCA, DoLS and Court of Protection involvement).
Represent the local authority at safeguarding meetings and case conferences.
Record and manage case work using our digital case management systems with accuracy and timeliness.
Promote early intervention and prevention to reduce future risk.
Champion adult rights, capacity, and advocacy in line with national safeguarding policy and the Human Rights Act.
Key Requirements
We are looking for applicants who have:
A professional Social Work qualification (Degree / DipSW / CQSW) and Social Work England registration.
At least two years of post-qualification experience in adult services, with a solid understanding of safeguarding practice.
In-depth knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Human Rights Act, and relevant statutory frameworks.
Experience of working in multi-agency settings and delivering person-centred practice.
The ability to manage complex and sensitive cases with emotional resilience and sound judgement.
Excellent communication, report writing, and IT skills.
Enhanced DBS clearance (required before appointment).
