Wakefield Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join our Safeguarding Team on a locum basis. This is a full-time, business-critical position providing interim cover for a vacant post while we recruit permanently.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee and manage a team of 5 full-time Best Interests Assessors (BIAs).
* Provide guidance and support to BIAs to ensure high-quality assessments and compliance with statutory requirements.
* Conduct quality assurance reviews of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessments.
* Implement measures to maintain and improve assessment standards.
* Assist the Team Manager in achieving and improving Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
* Take on additional duties as required to support the overall functioning of the team.
* Handle complex cases, particularly those involving s21a challenges.
* Ensure cases are managed efficiently and effectively, meeting court scrutiny standards.
* Ensure compliance with statutory duties as a supervisory body.
Essential Requirements:
* Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent
* At least 1+ years experience as a social worker within childrens services
* Social Work England Registration
* Driving license and access to own vehicle

About the Role:
Wakefield Council is currently seeking a Senior Social Worker to join their Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) Team. This is a crucial frontline position requiring strong analytical skills, the ability to make confident decisions under pressure, and previous experience working within a MASH environment.
This role offers the chance to work in a fast-paced, collaborative setting, surrounded by professionals from different partner agencies-all dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of children across Wakefield.
Key Responsibilities:
Screen and assess all incoming referrals within the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH).Liaise effectively with health, police, education, and other key safeguarding partners.Analyse and evaluate information to make sound decisions on the level of risk and intervention required.Provide recommendations and rationale for the next steps in line with safeguarding thresholds.Ensure all actions taken comply with legislation and local safeguarding procedures.Candidate Requirements:

About the RoleWakefield Council is currently seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join their Localities Safeguarding Team based in Airedale, Castleford. This is a fast-paced yet highly supportive service working with children and families who are at risk of significant harm.
The team undertakes statutory safeguarding work, including child protection, child in need, and care proceedings. The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, child-focused social work practice in line with legislative and policy frameworks.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage a caseload involving children subject to CIN and CP plans
Undertake Section 47 enquiries, assessments, and direct work with families
Initiate and progress care proceedings where necessary
Build strong, trust-based relationships with children and their families
Contribute to core group meetings, child protection conferences, and reviews
Work collaboratively with health, education, police, and other partners
Maintain accurate and timely case records in line with council policies
Participate in regular supervision and team development activities
RequirementsSocial Work qualification (BA/MA Social Work, DipSW or equivalent)
Registration with Social Work England

Strong communication, risk assessment, and analytical skills
