About the Role:

Lewisham Council is seeking an experienced Child Protection Chair to join their safeguarding team. This is a pivotal leadership role where you'll be responsible for ensuring that child protection conferences are effective, statutory procedures are met, and the best interests of children are at the forefront of every decision.

Key Responsibilities:

Chairing Child Protection Conferences and safeguarding meetings

Making decisive, child-centred decisions on protection plans

Coordinating multi-agency contributions and ensuring statutory compliance

Monitoring and auditing the implementation and impact of protection plans

Leading and facilitating challenging discussions with families and professionals

Applying best practices, ideally including Signs of Safety methodology

Contributing to service improvement through audits and reflective practice

Essential Requirements:

Extensive experience as a Child Protection Chair

Proven expertise in chairing complex CP conferences

Solid understanding of child protection legislation, procedures, and frameworks

Social Work England registration and relevant professional qualification

Strong decision-making, communication, and leadership skills

Experience with Signs of Safety approach (desirable)

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of older people's services and a strong background in team leadership within adult social care.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and supervise a team of social workers within the Older People's service

Ensure statutory responsibilities are met under the Care Act 2014

Support with case allocations, performance monitoring, and staff development

Provide professional supervision and guidance to the team

Contribute to service planning and improvements in line with best practice

Requirements:

SWE Registration

Significant post-qualified experience in Adult Social Care

Proven experience in team leadership or management roles

Strong working knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding frameworks

Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

Experience in supervision, leadership, and the ability to challenge poor practice constructively.
