Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council is currently seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer(Safeguarding & Quality Assurance) to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working within a well-established local authority.

Role Details:

Location: Trinity Road, Bootle, Merseyside

Pay Rate: £45. 58 per hour (Umbrella)

Key Responsibilities:

Chair statutory Looked After Children (LAC) Reviews, ensuring care plans are robust, child-centred, and outcome-focused.Monitor and review care planning to ensure compliance with statutory legislation, policies, and timescales.Promote and safeguard the rights, wishes, and best interests of children and young people.Provide independent oversight and challenge where care planning or service delivery falls below expected standards.Escalate concerns through formal dispute resolution processes where required to improve outcomes.Work collaboratively with social workers, managers, carers, and multi-agency partners to ensure effective care planning.Monitor the implementation of decisions and recommendations arising from statutory reviews.Contribute to quality assurance by identifying themes, trends, and areas for service improvement.Ensure children's voices are heard and meaningfully influence planning and decision-making.Maintain accurate records and produce high-quality review documentation in line with statutory requirements.

Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalentAt least 3 years' experience as a social worker within children's servicesSocial Work England RegistrationDriving license and access to own vehicle

The Role

To be successful, you will have:

This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape a developing service while delivering specialist systemic psychotherapy and trauma-informed interventions to children, young people, and families facing complex challenges. Working closely with Social Workers, Family Help Teams, and multi-agency partners, you will play a key role in improving outcomes, reducing risk, and supporting children to remain safely within their families wherever possible.

The Role

You will:

Deliver specialist systemic psychotherapy and trauma-informed interventions to children and families.Provide expert consultation, guidance, and reflective practice to practitioners and managers.Lead and support high-quality risk assessments, safety planning, and safeguarding interventions.Work with families affected by domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health difficulties, and complex safeguarding concerns.Promote systemic, strengths-based, and evidence-informed practice across Children's Services.Contribute to service development and the embedding of systemic principles across the organisation.Essential Requirements

✅ Degree/Masters in Family & Systemic Psychotherapy

✅ UKCP Registration as a Family & Systemic Psychotherapist

✅ AFT-accredited qualifying training

✅ Significant experience working with children, young people, and families

✅ Strong safeguarding, child protection, risk assessment, and multi-agency working experience

✅ Excellent communication, consultation, and relationship-building skills
