Role Overview

Reading Borough Council is seeking an experienced Locum Case Manager, also known as a Court Progression Manager, to join their Joint Legal Team. The successful candidate will act as a key point of contact between social workers, team managers, and Assistant Directors of Children's Services, providing oversight, guidance, and quality assurance for cases in both pre-proceedings and court proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor and track cases in pre-proceedings and court proceedings, ensuring compliance with statutory timescalesProvide oversight, guidance, and challenge to social work teams to drive case progressionAnalyse case progression, identify causes of delay, and escalate concerns where necessarySupport preparation of written evidence and reports for courtAttend Legal Planning / Gateway meetings and monthly tracking meetingsDrive improvements through quality assurance, monitoring, and performance trackingWork collaboratively with social workers, team managers, legal teams, and other stakeholdersMaintain high professional standards while managing competing priorities

Essential Requirements

Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registrationSubstantial experience within family justice, including care proceedings and complex child protection casesExcellent communication, organisational, and coaching skillsStrong analytical skills with the ability to manage competing prioritiesHighly resilient, proactive, and able to work autonomouslyWillingness to attend client offices (Wokingham & Bracknell) up to once a week / fortnight if required
