Birmingham Children's Trust is looking for an experienced and dedicated Senior Practitioner to join their Dynamic Kinship Assessment Team.
Location: 1 Avenue Rd, Aston
Payrate: Up to £33.30 Per Hour (Umbrella)
Note: 1 day in the office (Wednesday)
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and undertake comprehensive kinship assessments to identify safe, stable, and nurturing family placements for children.Provide expert guidance and support to social workers on kinship care assessments, permanency planning, and statutory processes.Assess the suitability of extended family members and connected persons in line with safeguarding and fostering regulations.Support the development of care plans that promote permanency, stability, and positive outcomes for children.Chair and contribute to professional meetings, case discussions, and planning forums relating to kinship arrangements.Work closely with children, families, and carers to build strong relationships and ensure their voices are heard throughout the assessment process.Provide mentoring, coaching, and practice oversight to less experienced practitioners within the team.Ensure assessments and reports are completed to a high standard, within timescales, and in accordance with legislation and policy.Collaborate effectively with multi-agency partners, legal teams, and court services to support decision-making.Identify and manage safeguarding risks, ensuring the child's welfare remains central to all assessments and plans.Promote anti-discriminatory, inclusive, and strengths-based practice that recognises the diversity of family networks.Contribute to service improvement, quality assurance, and the development of best practice in kinship care.
Essential Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and support the delivery of high-quality kinship assessments, including Form K Kinship Fostering and Special Guardianship Order (SGO) assessments.Provide expert guidance, support and supervision to Senior Social Workers within the Kinship Assessment Team.Drive robust, timely and outcome-focused assessment practice that prioritises the safety, stability and wellbeing of children.Support prospective kinship carers through comprehensive assessment, advice and guidance processes.Undertake and support court-related social work, including preparation of high-quality court reports and evidence-based recommendations.Quality assure kinship assessments and support plans to ensure they meet statutory requirements and best practice standards.Promote a culture of continuous learning, reflective practice and professional development across the team.Provide professional consultation and advice to colleagues and partner agencies regarding kinship care assessments and permanency planning.Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives within the Kinship Assessment Service.Ensure all assessments and interventions are child-centred, strengths-based and focused on achieving positive outcomes for children within their family networks.Support the Trust's commitment to enabling children to remain safely within their wider family wherever possible.Maintain accurate, timely and high-quality case recording and documentation in line with organisational and statutory expectations.
