Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) - Darlington Borough Council

Location: Darlington (DL1 5QT)
Contract: Ongoing contract with potential for extension

Are you an experienced and passionate Independent Reviewing Officer looking for your next opportunity? Darlington Borough Council is seeking a dedicated IRO to join their Children's Services team, playing a key role in ensuring the best outcomes for children and young people.

The Role

As an Independent Reviewing Officer, you will chair statutory reviews for looked-after children, monitor care planning, and ensure children's voices remain central to decision-making. Working collaboratively with social workers, partner agencies, and families, you will promote high standards of practice while ensuring statutory responsibilities are met.

Key ResponsibilitiesChair statutory reviews for looked-after children and monitor care plans.Ensure children's wishes and feelings are heard and reflected in care planning.Monitor the quality and effectiveness of care planning and service delivery.Challenge delays or poor practice where necessary to secure positive outcomes.Work closely with social workers, managers, and multi-agency professionals to safeguard children.Promote best practice and contribute to continuous service improvement.RequirementsSocial Work England registration.Significant post-qualifying experience within Children's Services.Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and court processes.Experience supporting, mentoring, or supervising social workers.Excellent assessment, communication, and analytical skills.BenefitsCompetitive pay rate.Supportive and collaborative team environment.Opportunity to influence and develop best practice across Children's Services.Ongoing contract with the potential for extension.
