Bedford Borough Council is looking for a Qualified Social Worker to join their highly regarded Assessment Team - CONECT. This is a rare opportunity to join a stable, supportive team where your experience and voice will be truly valued.

You'll be responsible for leading Child and Family Assessments, participating in strategy meetings, and carrying out Section 47 investigations. If you're passionate about safeguarding children and supporting families at the frontline, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities:

Complete high-quality Child and Family Assessments in a timely and child-centred manner.

Attend and contribute to strategy discussions, Section 47 enquiries, and Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs).

Undertake direct work with children and families to ensure safety and positive outcomes.

Work closely with multi-agency partners, including education, health, and police, to assess risk and take appropriate action.

Maintain accurate and analytical case recordings in line with statutory requirements.

Participate in regular supervision and team discussions, contributing to the team's strength and consistency.

Candidate Requirements:

Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England

Recent experience in a Children's Assessment or Safeguarding Team

Skilled in completing Section 17/47 assessments and participating in ICPCs

Strong knowledge of statutory social work practice, child development, and safeguarding frameworks

Confident in direct work with children and building relationships with families

Committed to delivering timely interventions and upholding best practice

This is a dynamic statutory children's social work role, offering stability, a competitive umbrella pay rate of £39.50/hr, and the chance to work in a supportive, high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities:

Work directly with children, young people, and families to build strong, trust-based relationships.

Manage cases across Child in Need, Child Protection, PLO, and court proceedings, from start to final orders.

Undertake thorough and timely assessments, identifying risks and planning robust interventions.

Deliver child-centred planning, interventions, and reviews in line with statutory and operational frameworks.

Maintain accurate, analytical case recordings, reports, and statutory documentation.

Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external multi-agency partners.

Take initiative in supervision and contribute to reflective practice, team development, and quality standards.

Lead by example in mentoring peers, modelling excellent inter-agency and safeguarding practice.

Requirements:

Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England

Proven frontline experience in CIN, CP, PLO, and family court proceedings

Strong assessment, communication, and decision-making skills

Ability to manage a complex caseload independently

Experience working in a fast-paced statutory environment

Familiarity with the Professional Capabilities Framework and practice standards
