Duties
Provide advice and support to custody officers in determining the health care needs of detainees and the priorities of care, seeking advice from Seniors, Lead Seniors and Clinical Leads / Consultants on call when required.Work with other members of the team to ensure that the service is provided at all times. Including demonstrating flexibility and acting supportively at all times.Attend other sites as required: e.g. hospitals to carry out blood and toxicology proceduresWork with other members of the team including, where relevant: Liaison & Diversion, Court staff and Community Teams to ensure a seamless service is delivered, demonstrating flexibility and acting supportively at all times.Identify vulnerabilities and make referrals to external services for the ongoing support of the service userTo understand and implement the principles of safeguarding children, young people and adults who have support needs. Ensuring compliance with local safeguarding policies, procedures and other statutory requirements.Recognise any concerning features in presentation, history or examination that could be suggestive of safeguarding concerns and take relevant action, liaising with appropriate multi-disciplinary professionals.Assist in the training of new team members.Develop positive working relationships with the, custody staff, police officers, local health organisations, any consultants on call, drug referral workers, and other organisations which can contribute to the excellence of the service.Keep accurate, complete and contemporaneous notes of work carried out, including the recording of injuries. Ensure all activities are logged using the appropriate systems: e.g. SystmOne, Rostering Management System (RMS), Service User Management System (SUMS), and relevant police force systems.Provide written statements for court procedures, attending court when required to do soMake use of clinical supervision opportunities to evaluate your own work and development.Participate in the collection of data for service audits and other mechanisms for achieving continuous service improvement.Abide by the NMC / HCPC code of conduct, maintain professional development through training and experience, and use opportunities to promote the role of health care professionals in the custody setting.Promote the health and safety of staff and detainees in accordance with the H&S policy, taking action to remedy any observed problems and working in a way which minimises risk.Takes responsibility for updating themselves on procedural and clinical updates on the central systems (RMS) to ensure they are operating to the latest practices and standardsTakes on responsibilities of tasks delegated by the company/management team as required

Role Overview

Supporting operational teams by reducing backlog pressures
Screening referrals and gathering information to determine if safeguarding enquiries are required
Working collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure appropriate safeguarding decisions
