About the RoleCambridgeshire County Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Family Safeguarding Service based in Huntingdon. This is a frontline statutory role where you will be responsible for managing cases involving Children in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP) and Children in Care (CIC).
You will play a key part in supporting families through complex safeguarding cases, including Public Law Outline (PLO) and Care Proceedings, while also contributing to the team's duty rota and multi-agency conferences.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct statutory visits for CIN, CP, and CIC cases in line with national and local procedures
Hold and manage a diverse caseload, including cases within PLO or Section 31 Care Proceedings
Complete and present high-quality court reports, parenting assessments, and risk assessments
Chair Child in Need meetings and Core Group meetings, ensuring robust care planning and clear decision-making
Attend and contribute to Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs) and Review Child Protection Conferences (RCPCs)
Prepare and submit well-structured reports for child protection conferences
Participate in the team's duty rota, responding to new referrals and urgent safeguarding concerns
Attend court proceedings with the support of Senior Practitioners and Team Managers
Work collaboratively with internal teams and partner agencies to ensure holistic family support and risk management
RequirementsSocial Work qualification (BA/MA/DipSW or equivalent)
Social Work England registration
Minimum 3 years' post-qualified experience in statutory children's social care
Experience in safeguarding, CIN, CP, CIC, and court work essential
Strong assessment, analytical, and report writing skills
Comfortable working in a hybrid setup with occasional travel to Huntingdon

To have a sound knowledge of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support
Regulations, together with their associated computer systems (Northgate), plus a
good basic understanding of Council Tax Legislation.
To ensure the correct usage of computer systems, to input, verify and obtain
information on all matters relating to the assessment of Housing Benefit and
Council Tax Support.
To ensure that all claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support are
processed accurately and within the targeted timescales by correctly
calculating income and rent details and inputting the personal details of
claimants onto the computer system.
To amend, cancel and suspend benefit claims effectively, to avoid
underpayment/overpayment of Housing and Council Tax Support.
Within the Housing and Council Tax Support regulations and in accordance with
the Council's policy guidelines, to recover overpaid benefit.
Where necessary, to refer rents to the Rent Officer Service and input the
results onto the computer system.
To use the computer system reports to ensure that Housing and Council Tax
Support has been correctly assessed and paid to the claimant by cheque or
credited to their rent/or Council Tax account.
To ensure that members of the public are dealt with in an effective and efficient
manner, by telephone, correspondence, at the reception counter or by visit to
their home, in all matters relating to their benefit claim.
