Main Responsibilities and Duties
· Plan and organise work to efficiently deliver specialised advice and support to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring wellbeing of vulnerable customers.
· Assess and determine eligibility of customers for financial and / or housing support, within legislation, regulations and policies.
· Make detailed inquiries to relevant agencies in order to verify and obtain required information. Interpret and analyse information to aid own decision making.
· To support the relief of homelessness by working collaboratively with colleagues across the service and the wider authority with a focus on improving the customer journey for the residents.
· To make optimum use of the opportunities available to relieve homelessness including the use of the Homeless Prevention Fund, Discretionary Housing Payments, the supply of private rented housing; taking into account the customer's overall financial situation, their needs and aspirations, their eligibility for assistance under the homelessness legislation, whether they are able to sustain a tenancy in the private rented sector and their priority on the housing register.
· To enable customers to achieve sustainable and affordable solutions to their housing need throughout the time span of each case from the point of referral into the Assessments team to the final discharge or cessation of duty and taking responsibility for decisions made.
· To work with the Choice Based Lettings Team, Private Rented Sector Team and Temporary Accommodation Team to provide appropriate solutions for customers in order to relieve homelessness or to meet statutory housing duties by undertaking affordability assessments in line with the Suitability of Accommodation order 1996.
· Be the main contact and liaison officer for all agencies for area of specialism.
· To conduct risk assessments in accordance with DASH and/or other relevant assessments and refer as appropriate and be mindful of duties in respect of safeguarding children, vulnerable adults, the prevent agenda and making referrals as necessary.
· To work in a safe manner by contributing positively in the creation of a safe and healthy working environment, strictly in accordance with the Council's policies and procedures to ensure that compliance with health and safety requirements is met including participation and adherence to the Lone Worker Risk Assessment procedure.
· To conduct visits to customers and properties to fully carry out statutory and corporate duties, including residency checks and assisting vulnerable members of the community where necessary.
· Manage and monitor complex personal caseloads and maintain accurate detailed casework records by fully utilising IT systems.
· Research and evaluate current issues in the area of specialism and attend relevant training courses on legislation, order, code of guidance, case law etc. to keep up to date with developments and maintain / enhance knowledge in order to provide up to date advice and information.
· Maintain all records and information, including sensitive and confidential, in accordance with data protection laws and established practice.
· Assess information, situations and problems from a professional standpoint, developing, recommending and processing solutions.
· Provide authoritative advice and support to customers, external partners, police, government welfare agencies, internal and external stakeholders in order to achieve appropriate establishment and processing of financial support and / or housing to ensure the welfare of vulnerable customers.
· Identify and challenge negative customer practice, using tact and diplomacy. Ensure customers / service users understand their obligations and the actions needed for compliance.
Provide advice and assistance in emergency situations for those households threatened with homelessness on the day.· To partake in the statutory out of hours homelessness service on a voluntary rota basis.

The Role
As part of the Fostering Family & Friends Assessment Team, you will:
Undertake comprehensive Family & Friends and Connected Persons assessments.
Complete viability assessments and Special Guardianship assessments where required.
Prepare clear, analytical court-standard reports.
Work collaboratively with children, families, carers, and partner agencies.
Contribute to positive permanence planning and outcomes for children.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker with current registration with the Social Work England.
Minimum 3 years permanent post-qualification Social Work experience in line with DfE agency worker requirements.
Previous experience within fostering, connected persons, kinship, or assessment services.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle essential.
Strong assessment, report-writing, and relationship-building skills.
