Senior Practitioner - Families First Team - Durham County Council

Durham County Council is seeking highly motivated and experienced Social Workers to join the Families First Team as Senior Practitioners. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children, young people, and families.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively with children, young people, families, and professionals, ensuring their views are heard in assessment, planning, and review.
- Build and maintain high-quality professional relationships to support positive change, even in challenging situations.
- Identify and respond to child development concerns, signs of harm, and risks.
- Assess the impact of mental ill health, substance misuse, domestic abuse, and disabilities on children and family dynamics.
- Conduct in-depth family assessments focusing on parental capacity and risk factors, ensuring child-focused interventions.
- Develop realistic, child-centered plans in collaboration with families and partner agencies to manage and reduce risks.
- Produce clear, evidence-based case notes, reports, and court documentation.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of children and families, adapting plans as necessary.
- Lead child protection investigations in consultation with other professionals.
- Use legislation, statutory guidance, and research to inform complex decisions.
- Engage in reflective practice, supervision, and professional development.
- Maintain effective multi-agency partnerships and represent the profession in court settings when required.
- Support service improvement by mentoring, coaching, and sharing best practices.
- Maintain Social Work England registration and adhere to professional standards.
Essential Requirements:
- Social Work Qualification (Degree or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years' experience in children's services
- Social Work England registration
- Valid UK driving license and access to own vehicle
