Wakefield City Council is seeking an experienced Child Protection Chair (IRO) to join their Safeguarding and Review Service, overseeing Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs) and Review Child Protection Conferences (RCPCs). This role is fully office-based at Five Towns Resource Centre in Castleford and offers a competitive pay rate of £40 per hour (umbrella).
Key Responsibilities:
- Chair Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs) and Review Child Protection Conferences (RCPCs), ensuring robust safeguarding measures are in place.
- Provide independent oversight of child protection cases, ensuring best practices and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Work collaboratively with social workers, multi-agency professionals, and families to develop and review child protection plans.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safeguarding interventions, ensuring child-centered decision-making.
- Identify areas for improvement in practice and provide constructive challenge where necessary.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records, ensuring that all actions align with local authority policies and statutory guidance.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified Social Worker with registration under Social Work England.
- Extensive experience in child protection and safeguarding within a local authority setting.
- Prior experience as a Child Protection Chair or Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, and other relevant safeguarding legislation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, ensuring decisions are made in the best interests of children.
