We are currently recruiting for an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join the Assessments & Reviews Team in Bedford. This is a senior-level opportunity offering a competitive rate of £47 per hour, ideal for professionals with a strong background in Adult Social Care and complex casework.
This role requires attendance in the office three days per week, with community visits to carry out assessments, reviews, and welfare checks, so a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle is a must.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a complex caseload, providing high-quality assessments and reviews in line with the Care Act 2014
Lead on safeguarding enquiries, Mental Capacity Assessments, and Best Interests decisions
Promote autonomy, independence, and personalisation in all aspects of care planning and delivery
Contribute to multi-agency working, ensuring service integration and collaborative outcomes
Offer professional guidance and mentoring to less experienced colleagues within the team
Use supervision effectively for reflective practice, personal development, and improved outcomes
Support the Team Manager with service oversight, practice standards, and quality assurance
Essential Requirements:
Qualified Social Worker with SWE registration
Proven experience in Adult Social Care - particularly assessments and reviews
In-depth knowledge of:
Care Act 2014
Mental Capacity Act 2005
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)
Strong interpersonal, leadership, and risk assessment skills
Full driving licence and access to a car for visits

About the RoleBedford Borough Council is seeking a skilled and dedicated Experienced Social Worker to join their Locality Family Support Services. This is a frontline role, working with children and families through Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), Public Law Outline (PLO) and Care Proceedings up to final orders.
This is an excellent opportunity for professionals confident in risk assessment, statutory intervention, and family work to contribute meaningfully to improving outcomes for vulnerable children.
Key ResponsibilitiesBuild effective partnerships with children, families, and carers to understand their needs and promote participation in planning and decision-making
Undertake high-quality assessments in line with statutory requirements, anticipating and managing risks to children in complex situations
Plan, deliver, and review tailored interventions to support positive change and stability
Manage a complex caseload independently, demonstrating excellent organisational and time management skills
Maintain accurate and timely case records and produce well-structured reports and analysis
Actively engage in regular supervision for professional reflection and development
Collaborate with multi-agency professionals to ensure coordinated service delivery
Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to professional development and high-quality practice across the team
Work within a strong equality and diversity framework, challenging oppressive practice when necessary
Adhere to HCPC/Social Work England standards and meet the Professional Capabilities Framework at the Experienced Social Worker level
RequirementsSocial Work qualification (BA/MA/DipSW or equivalent)
Social Work England registration
Minimum of 3 years' post-qualified experience within statutory children's services
Proven experience with CIN, CP, PLO and Care Proceedings
Strong assessment and analytical skills
Clear, confident communication and report writing abilities
Enhanced DBS (registered to the Update Service preferred)
Ability to work independently and within a team
Access to a vehicle and full UK driving licence preferred
