Key Responsibilities:
Respond to emergency referrals outside of standard working hours
Undertake statutory duties under the Mental Health Act 1983 as an AMHP
Lead on Care Act 2014 assessments for adults and carers in crisis
Conduct full risk assessments and coordinate the assessment process, liaising with relevant bodies (e.g. police, ambulance services, courts)
Carry out Mental Health Act assessments, including applications for detention and advising on legal rights
Provide support and arrange emergency or temporary care placements when needed
Attend Custody Suites as an _Appropriate Adult_ or conduct assessments under the MHA or Care Act
Provide detailed written reports, maintain accurate records using both paper and the LAS system
Refer all non-urgent matters to the relevant daytime service and conduct face-to-face handovers
Contribute to service development and national AMHP initiatives by attending forums and training
Promote safeguarding procedures and ensure confidentiality is maintained
Requirements:
Qualified and approved AMHP, with up-to-date AMHP registration
Strong knowledge of Mental Health legislation, Care Act 2014, and safeguarding practices
Experience of conducting out-of-hours statutory assessments
Ability to work autonomously and handle complex/high-risk cases
Excellent report writing and communication skills
Willingness to attend supervision, team meetings, and training events occasionally during office hours
