Halton Borough Council is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Qualified Social Worker to join its Duty and Assessment Team, based in the Halton area.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced social worker looking for a challenging and rewarding position within a supportive team environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Conduct initial assessments.
* Manage a varied caseload of children and families in need of support.
* Work collaboratively with multi-agency professionals to safeguard children.
* Undertake home visits, build rapport with families, and ensure that appropriate interventions are put in place.
* Produce high-quality assessments and reports for management and court purposes.
* Respond swiftly to referrals, assessing risk and need to ensure timely and effective interventions.
Requirements
* Qualified Social Worker (Degree/Diploma in Social Work).
* Registration with Social Work England.
* Proven experience within a Duty and Assessment team or similar front-line social work.
* Strong understanding of child protection, safeguarding, and social work legislation.
* Ability to manage a complex caseload effectively while maintaining high-quality practice standards.
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
* Car for work purposes.

Responsibilities:
* Holding a caseload of children subject to Child Protection Plans and Children in Need
* Undertaking Initial Assessments
* Undertaking Core Assessments
* Undertaking Child Protection Enquiries
* Undertaking Pre-Birth Assessments
* Undertaking Parenting Assessments
* Undertaking assessments
* Undertaking Risk Assessments
* Completion of Section 7 reports requested by Family Courts
* Completion of Section 37 reports requested by Family Courts
* Providing Section 17 support to families and children in need
* Carrying out home visits for monitoring purposes/ to promote the welfare of and to safeguard the children
* Liaising/ Working close with partnership agencies to support the families and meet the children/ young peoples needs
* Producing Initial Child Protection Conference reports
* Convening and chairing Core Group Meetings
* Initiating and implementing Child Protection Plans
* Initiating Care Proceedings
* Completion of Care Proceedings
Essential Requirements:
* Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent
* At least 3 years' experience as a social worker within children's services
* Social Work England Registration
* Driving license and access to own vehicle

We are recruiting social workers to join the Leaving Care Team (Supporting Independence Team) which sits in our permanency hub, working with our looked after children across all our localities within Cheshire West and Chester.
The role will involve working with young people aged 15 to 25 who are looked after by the local authority.
The candidate will hold responsibility for a number of looked after children supporting them through the care planning and pathway planning process to develop their independent living skills. With this in mind, we are looking for candidates with experience of assessment and pathway planning with looked after children and working with teenagers and young adults.
Knowledge of Dols and unaccompanied asylum seeking children would be advantageous but not essential.
We offer excellent supervision and manageable caseloads, working alongside stable teams of experienced social workers and permanent established Team Managers. Free parking in all our localities, access to all in house training and development to support CPD.
It would be beneficial if the candidate lives within a reasonable distance from Cheshire West, as whilst we do work in a hybrid style, there is an expectation of regular working from our office bases.
