Job Title: Team Manager - Looked After Children (LAC)
Pay Rate: £47.50 per hour (Umbrella)

Role Overview
Portsmouth City Council is seeking an experienced Team Manager to lead the Building Your Futures Team, which supports Looked After Children (LAC) in foster care, specialist care, and family-based placements. The team also works on Going Home (reunification) plans to ensure the best long-term outcomes for children and young people.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate leader who is committed to mentoring, reflective supervision, and creative problem-solving to improve the lives of children in care.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development:
Lead a dedicated pod of social workers, providing supervision, mentoring, and performance management.
Encourage creativity and solution-focused practice to meet individual needs.
Care Planning & Multi-Agency Work:
Work collaboratively with children, families, and multi-agency professionals to support effective care planning.
Monitor and support permanency planning and transitions into adulthood.
Supervision & Case Oversight:
Chair meetings, quality-assure risk assessments and care plans.
Support and challenge social workers to maintain high practice standards.
Operational Management:
Act as Duty Manager on a rota basis.
Represent the Building Your Futures service in working groups and strategy meetings.
Contribute to service development and workforce planning.
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications & Registration:
Degree or Diploma in Social Work.
Registered with Social Work England.
Evidence of post-qualifying experience.
Experience & Skills:
Extensive experience working with LAC and care-experienced young adults.
Experience in managing staff, students, or teams, with strong leadership skills.
Excellent problem-solving, time management, and organisational skills.
Ability to balance support and challenge in staff supervision.
Strong knowledge of children's legislation, policy, and statutory guidance.
Confidence in ICT systems and high-quality case analysis/reporting.
