I am currently recruiting for an experienced and dedicated Advanced Practitioner to join the Emergency Duty Team at Bury Council.

Location: Bradley Fold Road

Pay Rate: £40.00 per hour (Umbrella)

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday - 16:30 - 01:00

Key Responsibilities:

Provide a high-quality statutory social work service outside of normal working hours, responding to emergency and urgent situations.Undertake complex assessments, risk evaluations, and decision-making to ensure immediate safety and safeguarding of vulnerable children and adults.Lead on safeguarding enquiries and Section 47 investigations where required.Provide professional advice, guidance, and support to social workers and partner agencies during crisis situations.Make timely, defensible decisions in high-pressure environments, often with limited information.Liaise effectively with police, health services, and other emergency services to coordinate appropriate interventions.Manage and prioritise a diverse caseload of urgent referrals during duty shifts.Ensure all case recording and documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with statutory requirements and local procedures.Contribute to the development and improvement of EDT practice and service delivery.Support and mentor less experienced practitioners when required during duty periods.

Essential Requirements:

Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalentAt least 3 years' experience as a social worker within children's servicesSocial Work England RegistrationDriving license and access to own vehicle

Key Responsibilities:

Provide senior-level social work leadership during out-of-hours periods, responding to urgent safeguarding concerns involving children, young people and families.Undertake risk assessments and make defensible decisions in crisis situations, including strategy discussions, emergency interventions and initiating legal action where required.Provide advanced practice guidance, consultation and professional supervision to EDT social workers and partner agencies during complex cases.Act as the lead decision-maker for child protection, safeguarding and statutory interventions outside normal working hours.Liaise effectively with police, health, housing, and other multi-agency partners to ensure coordinated emergency responses.Authorise and coordinate emergency placements, including foster care, residential care and secure accommodation when necessary.Ensure statutory duties and local safeguarding procedures are met in all emergency responses.Maintain high-quality, timely and accurate case recording and handovers to daytime services to ensure continuity of care.Contribute to service development, quality assurance and the embedding of best practice within the Emergency Duty Team.Promote reflective practice, professional curiosity and high standards of safeguarding decision-making.
