Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a team of 3 Tribunal and Mediation Officers, overseeing approx. 100 live appeals.Handle complex appeals related to Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Plan decisions.Draft and submit detailed written responses, legal submissions, and case statements.Represent the local authority at Tribunal hearings and mediation meetings.Act as a subject matter expert on SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice (0-25).Work collaboratively with families, schools, and professionals to resolve disputes pre-Tribunal.Liaise with Legal Services and external legal advisors for complex case support.Drive continuous service improvements based on outcomes and learning from Tribunal processes.Essential Skills & Experience:

Role Summary:
We are seeking a HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Haematology and Transfusion team at University Hospitals Dorset. The successful candidate will be based initially at Poole Hospital, with the expectation of also covering the Bournemouth site following training.
You will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality diagnostic service in Haematology and Transfusion, ensuring timely and accurate analysis for patient care across both acute sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine and specialist diagnostic tests in Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
Ensure all procedures comply with UKAS, MHRA, and Trust quality standards.
Maintain accurate records of test results and participate in internal/external quality assurance schemes.
Adhere to protocols related to infection prevention and control, patient confidentiality, and data security.
Participate in the full shift rota after induction (including nights, weekends, and bank holidays).
Shift Pattern:
Weeks 1-2: Monday to Sunday, 09:00-17:30
Subsequent Shifts:
Early/Late: 08:00-20:30
Nights: 20:15-08:15
7-day service - rotational shifts including weekends and on-calls
Requirements:
HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist (BMS)
Recent experience working in an NHS Haematology and Transfusion laboratory
Strong understanding of blood group serology and haematological analysis
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexibility to work across both Poole and Bournemouth sites as required
Desirable:
IBMS Specialist Portfolio (Haematology or Transfusion)
Previous experience working within a UKAS-accredited laboratory
