Interim SEND Resolutions Manager - South West £525 p/d
Job Title: SEND Resolutions Manager - South West Region
Pay Rate: £450 to £525 per day (Umbrella)
Working Arrangement: Hybrid - 1 day per week in the office preferred (Civic Centre)
An exciting interim opportunity has arisen for an experienced SEND Tribunals and Dispute Resolution Manager to join a forward-thinking local authority in the South West region.
This key maternity cover role requires an established professional with a strong background in SEND Tribunals, who can lead a small team and manage a high volume of complex cases with confidence and expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of 3 Tribunal and Mediation Officers, overseeing approx. 100 live appeals.
- Handle complex appeals related to Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Plan decisions.
- Draft and submit detailed written responses, legal submissions, and case statements.
- Represent the local authority at Tribunal hearings and mediation meetings.
- Act as a subject matter expert on SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice (0-25).
- Work collaboratively with families, schools, and professionals to resolve disputes pre-Tribunal.
- Liaise with Legal Services and external legal advisors for complex case support.
- Drive continuous service improvements based on outcomes and learning from Tribunal processes.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Demonstrated success managing a SEND Tribunal/DR team and large volume of active appeals.
- Expert knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014.
- Experience in preparing case bundles, leading mediation, and representing at Tribunals.
- Strong leadership and case management skills with a focus on service improvement.
Additional Info:
While applicants will be assessed on merit, it is preferred that the successful candidate can attend the Civic Centre one day per week. This may be considered as part of the final selection process.
