Surrey County Council is looking for an experienced Adolescent Social Worker to join their North Team. This role involves working with vulnerable adolescents at risk of exploitation, criminality, or family breakdown. The service is fast-paced, innovative, and committed to helping young people thrive through trauma-informed practice and relationship-based interventions.
Key Responsibilities Include:Holding a complex caseload of adolescents aged 12-18
Managing cases under Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Looked After Children (LAC)
Working with issues such as contextual safeguarding, exploitation, and mental health
Developing and delivering effective care and intervention plans
Engaging with multi-agency partners, families, and communities
Preparing reports for legal proceedings and attending court when required
Required Qualifications & Skills:Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
Minimum 2-3 years' post-qualified experience in Children's Services
Experience of working with vulnerable and high-risk adolescents
Strong assessment, communication, and decision-making skills
Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced, high-demand service
Must be a driver with access to a vehicle

Key Responsibilities:
Manage a defined caseload of service users within secure and acute settings
Undertake mental health assessments and provide robust risk management plans
Facilitate and coordinate effective discharge and aftercare planning
Work collaboratively with clinical teams, external agencies, and families
Attend and contribute to ward rounds, CPA reviews, and multi-disciplinary meetings
Complete Mental Health Tribunal and Ministry of Justice reports
Support service users through the Care Programme Approach (CPA) process
Ensure safeguarding protocols are followed in line with legislation and best practice
Advocate for patients and uphold their rights in accordance with the Mental Health Act and relevant statutory frameworks
Requirements:
Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration
Experience working within forensic, secure, or acute mental health services
Strong understanding of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act, Care Act, and Human Rights Act
Excellent communication, documentation, and case management skills
Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and independently
Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to undergo one)

Key Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of SEND Tribunal cases, ensuring all statutory processes and timelines are met
* Represent the local authority at Tribunal hearings, providing clear and evidence-based advocacy
* Work directly with parents, carers, schools and legal representatives to resolve disputes where possible
* Collaborate with multi-agency professionals and contribute to strategy and service development
* Ensure all decisions and actions are in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice
Requirements
* Substantial experience in SEND casework, particularly within the SEND Tribunal process
* Strong understanding of EHC plans, statutory guidance and legal frameworks around SEND
* Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
* A background in education, SEN services or legal practice with relevant qualifications or equivalent experience
* Proven ability to work under pressure, manage a large caseload and respond to evolving service needs
