The social worker will need to be experienced in child protection work and completing comprehensive, outcome focused parenting assessments. The social workers undertaking the parenting assessments will work alongside the social workers who will be case holding the children.

Swindon Borough Council has confirmed that the £100 weekly travel and accommodation expenses will remain in place for all new and existing agency placements within Children's Social Care until 10 May 2026. Workers must reside more than 50 miles from Swindon.

As a Parenting Assessor, you will complete comprehensive parenting assessments for families involved in care proceedings or pre-proceedings. You will analyse parenting capacity, risk, and protective factors, producing clear, evidence-based reports to inform court and local authority decision-making.

This role requires strong analytical skills, confidence in assessment work, and the ability to produce high-standard court-ready reports within agreed timescales.

It will remain your ongoing responsibility to maintain the plans in line with the required legislation up until the young person is 18 years old when they will then fully transfer to their allocated Pathway Advisor. In an addition to managing your own caseload you will also be required to be part of our duty system that provides additional support to our young people alongside our Pathway Advisors.

You will undertake initial assessments and section 47 Child Protection investigations After the completion of the assessment, the case is either closed or held to the point of transfer to the Long Term Locality Teams.

Candidates will be managing a diverse and complex caseload within deadlines. Constant contact within all teams within Children's & Families Social Care and external agencies to address children's and their families' needs with best possible outcomes. Communication with line managers will allow identification of professional development and training that would be beneficial personally and to the team as a whole.
