Social Worker - Family Safeguarding Team - Bury
We are currently seeking an experienced Social worker to join the Child Protection/ Family Safeguarding service for Bury council.
General Duties
* Provide a professional social work service to children in need and their families in accordance with the principles of the Children Act
* Undertake enquiries and assessments of children who are considered to have possible suffered or who may be likely to suffer significant harm. Make applications with the appropriate management and legal advice for Orders to safeguard children under the Children Act
* Work in partnership with service users in a variety of settings including the office, the service user's own premises and any other suitable setting for social work practice.
* Prepare written reports of a professional standard for use in a variety of settings, including Court proceedings.
* Act as a representative of the Local Authority at court, give verbal evidence at Public and Private proceedings and give account of Local Authority actions provide written evidence for the courts when required.
* Maintain client records in accordance with statutory and departmental requirements.
* Attend child protection conferences, statutory reviews, core groups, department meetings and verbally contribute in a professional manner to the course of the proceedings.
* Represent the Local Authority when cases are being transferred between authorities.
* Contribute to the preparation and implementations of plans for children in need (child protection, looked after children and family support)
* Contribute to the maintenance and development of an efficient and effective social work team, attend and contribute to team meetings in a structured professional manner.
* Provide cover for the Children and Families Social Work Teams and when required.
* Work directly with service users employing a wide range of social work knowledge, skills, methods and techniques.
* Work co-operatively or conjointly with other social workers or other professionals where this is seen to be appropriate by the Fieldwork Team Manager or their managers
* Participate as required in the administration and organisation of all work related to social work duties associated with the post.
* Provide information to assist in the planning, implementation or monitoring of services as required for departmental, Department of Health or other official purposes.
* Work effectively and co-operatively within a professional and family network established in respect of individual children in need and their families.
* Act within departmental, council and government requirements, policies and procedures.
* Participate in supervision within the departmental scheme act in accordance with plans or undertakings given within supervision.
* Act as chair in meetings within the child protection procedures where this has been agreed by the Team Manager or other Fieldwork Managers.
* Advocate on behalf of clients with other local Authority departments and with private and voluntary agencies where this does not conflict with the role of a local authority employee.
* Provide information to assist in the planning, implementation or monitoring of services as required for departmental, Department for Education or other official purposes.
* Participate in a Social Work duty rota within the Social Work Team.
* To be responsible for and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and for ensuring that they are protected from harm.
* Process referrals and complete both initial and core assessments of children in need in accordance with statutory requirements and departmental policies.
* Interview children and young people where there are allegations of sexual abuse in accordance with official guidance and where necessary undertake those interviews jointly with the police.
* Undertake training appropriate to the duties of the post including the advanced award

Essential Requirements:
* Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent
* At least 3 years' experience as a social worker within children's services
* Social Work England Registration
* Driving license and access to own vehicle
