About the Role

Shropshire Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Qualified Social Worker to join its Duty & Assessment Team. This is a fast-paced frontline role, ideal for practitioners who are confident in managing referrals, completing statutory assessments, and making critical safeguarding decisions.

You will play a key role in ensuring children and families receive timely interventions, with a strong focus on safeguarding, risk management, and delivering high-quality assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake Child and Family Assessments in line with statutory frameworks
  • Respond to referrals, completing Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries
  • Assess risk and need, implementing effective safeguarding and safety plans
  • Manage a busy and dynamic caseload within a duty environment
  • Participate in strategy discussions and multi-agency meetings
  • Progress cases to Child Protection Conferences and legal proceedings where necessary
  • Carry out home visits and direct work to ensure the child's voice is central
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies including police, health, and education
  • Maintain accurate case recordings and produce high-quality reports within deadlines
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, statutory guidance, and local procedures

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • Proven experience within Duty & Assessment / Frontline Safeguarding Teams
  • Strong knowledge of child protection legislation and statutory processes
  • Experience completing Section 17 & Section 47 investigations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
  • Excellent risk assessment, analytical, and communication skills
