About the Role
Shropshire Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Qualified Social Worker to join its Duty & Assessment Team. This is a fast-paced frontline role, ideal for practitioners who are confident in managing referrals, completing statutory assessments, and making critical safeguarding decisions.
You will play a key role in ensuring children and families receive timely interventions, with a strong focus on safeguarding, risk management, and delivering high-quality assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake Child and Family Assessments in line with statutory frameworks
- Respond to referrals, completing Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries
- Assess risk and need, implementing effective safeguarding and safety plans
- Manage a busy and dynamic caseload within a duty environment
- Participate in strategy discussions and multi-agency meetings
- Progress cases to Child Protection Conferences and legal proceedings where necessary
- Carry out home visits and direct work to ensure the child's voice is central
- Work collaboratively with partner agencies including police, health, and education
- Maintain accurate case recordings and produce high-quality reports within deadlines
- Ensure compliance with legislation, statutory guidance, and local procedures
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
- Proven experience within Duty & Assessment / Frontline Safeguarding Teams
- Strong knowledge of child protection legislation and statutory processes
- Experience completing Section 17 & Section 47 investigations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
- Excellent risk assessment, analytical, and communication skills
