About the Role

Wakefield Council is currently seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join their Localities Safeguarding Team based in Airedale, Castleford. This is a fast-paced yet highly supportive service working with children and families who are at risk of significant harm.

The team undertakes statutory safeguarding work, including child protection, child in need, and care proceedings. The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, child-focused social work practice in line with legislative and policy frameworks.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload involving children subject to CIN and CP plans

  • Undertake Section 47 enquiries, assessments, and direct work with families

  • Initiate and progress care proceedings where necessary

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with children and their families

  • Contribute to core group meetings, child protection conferences, and reviews

  • Work collaboratively with health, education, police, and other partners

  • Maintain accurate and timely case records in line with council policies

  • Participate in regular supervision and team development activities


Requirements

  • Social Work qualification (BA/MA Social Work, DipSW or equivalent)

  • Registration with Social Work England

  • Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience in statutory safeguarding work

  • Experience of working within busy frontline safeguarding teams

  • Strong communication, risk assessment, and analytical skills

  • Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet statutory timescales

  • Driving licence and access to a car for visits is desirable
