Are you an experienced Social Worker with a passion for safeguarding adolescents and improving outcomes for vulnerable young people?

The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is looking for a dedicated Senior Social Worker - Homelessness Specialist to join our Assessment Service, supporting 16- and 17-year-old's presenting as homeless or at risk of homelessness.

This is a specialist role where you'll lead complex assessments, manage risk, and ensure young people receive the protection, stability, and opportunities they deserve. Working at the intersection of children's social care, housing, education, health, and partner agencies, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering timely, child-centred interventions that make a genuine impact.

What you'll be doing:


Leading statutory assessments for 16- and 17-year-old's presenting as homeless.
Undertaking complex safeguarding assessments and developing effective plans that promote safety and permanence.
Working collaboratively with Housing, Education, Health, Youth Justice and partner agencies to achieve the best outcomes.
Applying trauma-informed, relationship-based practice to support vulnerable adolescents.
Providing professional expertise on homelessness legislation, safeguarding, and statutory responsibilities.
Championing the voice of the child and ensuring every young person has the opportunity to thrive.
About you

We're looking for someone who has:

Social Work England registration.
Experience within Children's Social Care, ideally in Assessment, Front Door, Adolescents, or Safeguarding.
Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and the legal framework relating to 16- and 17-year-old's presenting as homeless.
Excellent assessment, risk management and partnership-working skills.
A commitment to delivering high-quality, restorative and strengths-based practice.
