Barking & Dagenham Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker / Senior Practitioner - Homelessness Specialist to join their Assessment Team, supporting young people aged 16 and 17 years old who are experiencing homelessness alongside complex safeguarding needs.
This is a specialist frontline role where you will complete high-quality assessments, manage risk, and deliver effective interventions to ensure young people receive the right support, protection, and stability.
You will work collaboratively with housing services, education providers, health professionals, and other partner agencies to develop effective support plans and achieve positive outcomes for vulnerable young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake comprehensive assessments for young people presenting with homelessness and safeguarding concerns.
- Manage complex cases involving risk, vulnerability, and family breakdown.
- Develop and implement effective intervention plans focused on improving outcomes for young people.
- Work collaboratively with housing, education, health, and partner agencies.
- Complete high-quality assessments, reports, and statutory documentation within required timescales.
- Provide expert social work advice and support within the Assessment Service.
- Ensure safeguarding responsibilities are met and children's needs remain central to all decision-making.
Requirements:
- Social Work England registration.
- Qualified Social Worker with strong Children's Services experience.
- Previous experience in Assessment, Homelessness, Leaving Care, or safeguarding teams is desirable.
- Strong assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage complex cases and work effectively with multi-agency partners.
