About the Role:
Barnsley Council is seeking experienced and dedicated Senior Social Workers to join their newly developed Edge of Care Team, working with children aged 10-18 who are at risk of entering care. This role offers a valuable opportunity to help families stay together through tailored, trauma-informed interventions.

You will deliver high-impact, family-focused social work that supports children and young people to remain safely at home. This is a vital role for those passionate about early intervention and relationship-based practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide intensive, evidence-based interventions to children and families to prevent care proceedings.

  • Complete detailed assessments and develop clear, child-centred care plans.

  • Deliver direct work and maintain regular engagement with families through home visits and community outreach.

  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to ensure holistic, wrap-around support.

  • Build trusting relationships with children, especially those who have experienced trauma or are resistant to engaging with services.

  • Offer professional support and guidance to colleagues on complex family dynamics.

  • Maintain timely and accurate case records in line with statutory and local policies.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.

  • Significant post-qualification experience in children's services or intensive family support roles.

  • Strong understanding of trauma, neurodiversity, family breakdown, and risk management.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Commitment to strengths-based and trauma-informed practice.

  • Enhanced DBS and full UK driving licence.
