We are currently recruiting for an experienced Team Manager to join the Assessment Team at Bedford Borough Council on a locum basis. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a key leadership role, supporting frontline staff while driving service improvements and reducing children's caseloads.

About the Role

As a valued Team Manager within the Assessment Team, you will lead a small, dedicated team of Social Workers to deliver high-quality assessments and timely interventions. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that children and families receive effective support, while maintaining strong performance and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise a team of 5 Social Workers, providing guidance, support, and oversight
  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality assessments in line with statutory requirements
  • Support the service in reducing children's caseloads and improving outcomes
  • Ensure timely decision-making and effective risk management
  • Promote best practice and maintain high standards of professional performance
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to safeguard children
  • Monitor performance and ensure compliance with service expectations

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • Previous Team Manager experience within Children's Services
  • Strong background in Assessment Services
  • Excellent leadership and decision-making skills
  • Driving licence preferred (although a car is not required for day-to-day duties, occasional travel within the area may be necessary)
