Speech and Language Therapist - Specialist Neurological Rehabilitation

Role Overview

We are seeking a Speech and Language Therapist to join a specialist neurological rehabilitation service for adults with complex communication, swallowing, and cognitive impairments. This role provides highly specialist assessment and intervention for individuals with acquired neurological, respiratory, or other medical conditions.

You will manage a complex caseload including residents with tracheostomies, prolonged disorders of consciousness (PDOC), locked-in syndrome, and cognitive-communication disorders, ensuring safe, effective, and person-centred care.

Key Responsibilities
Provide specialist assessment and intervention for communication and swallowing disorders, including PDOC and cognitive-communication disorders.
Coordinate and deliver complex therapy programmes, including FEES assessments, risk feeding protocols, and videofluoroscopy referrals where appropriate.
Support residents with tracheostomies or ventilator needs.
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualised therapy programmes, co-producing meaningful goals with residents.
Utilise verbal and non-verbal communication to engage residents and families.
Support residents' communication using low- and high-tech augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.
Produce reports summarising care plans, goals, and outcomes.
Provide guidance, training, and leadership to therapy assistants and wider MDT staff.
Carry out specialist-level admission assessments.
Uphold professional standards as outlined by HCPC and RCSLT.
Requirements
HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist
Experience managing caseloads involving dysphagia assessment and treatment
Experience working with families and MDTs
Evidence of continuing professional development
