Job Title: Senior Practitioner - SASH West Team (Specialist Adolescent Service) - Hertfordshire County Council - £42.50ph Umbrella
High-Impact Senior Practitioner Opportunity - SASH West Team (Hemel Hempstead)
Hertfordshire County Council is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner to join the Specialist Adolescent Service (SASH West Team) based in Hemel Hempstead. This is a high-profile adolescent safeguarding role working with some of the most complex and vulnerable young people across the county, using a contextual safeguarding approach to reduce risk and prevent family breakdown.
This is an excellent opportunity for a confident practitioner with strong adolescent experience to take on a dynamic caseload and deliver intensive, life-changing interventions.
Location & Working Pattern
- Location: DARC, Tenzing Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 4HS
- Working Pattern: Hybrid - 3 days office / 2 days WFH
- Visits: Face-to-face visits required (community-based role)
- Pay Rate: £42.50 per hour (Umbrella)
- Requirement: Must be a car driver with access to own vehicle
Key Areas of Practice
- Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE)
- Contextual safeguarding and risk reduction
- Youth homelessness and family breakdown prevention
- Young people missing from home or care
- Risk of radicalisation
- Children and young people entering or within the criminal justice system
- Rehabilitation of young people returning home after being looked after
- Preventing unnecessary LAC (Looked After Children) admissions
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake structured assessments for young people with complex needs and high vulnerability
- Deliver intensive interventions to reduce risk and improve outcomes
- Manage a caseload of adolescents requiring social care or youth justice intervention
- Act as responsible officer for court orders and intensive intervention plans
- Produce reports for youth offending panels, courts, and partner agencies
- Conduct visits and interviews with children missing from home, care, or education
- Maintain accurate case records using electronic systems in line with statutory timescales
- Work collaboratively within a multi-agency safeguarding and youth justice framework
- Participate in supervision, peer development, and team improvement initiatives
- Contribute to projects and service development across the Specialist Adolescent Service
- Work flexibly, including evenings and occasional weekends where required
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England (SWE)
- Minimum 3 years post-qualified experience in children's social care (England Local Authority)
- Strong knowledge of Section 17 and Section 47 processes
- Significant experience working with adolescents and complex safeguarding cases
- Experience in CSE/CCE, youth justice, or contextual safeguarding highly desirable
- Proven ability to complete court reports and multi-agency assessments
- Must be a driver with access to own vehicle
