Are you an experienced SEND professional with expert knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and the Children and Families Act 2014? We're currently looking for a Senior Appeals Officer (Senior Practitioner level) to lead on complex Tribunal and Mediation cases within Nottinghamshire County Council's Integrated Children's Disability Service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on managing a caseload of SENDIST Tribunal and Mediation cases.
  • Prepare the Local Authority's Statement of Case and gather supporting evidence across education, health, and care sectors.
  • Represent the Local Authority at Tribunal hearings, providing a strong legal and professional defence.
  • Work closely with internal and external partners, supporting and training colleagues on Tribunal processes.
  • Identify legal points and key themes in appeals, helping the council drive improvements and deliver best outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong understanding of SEND law, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Proven experience preparing for and attending Tribunals and Mediation meetings.
  • Confident in handling complex caseloads, engaging with multi-agency teams, and communicating with families and legal reps.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in SEND services with significant exposure to statutory assessments and appeal processes.
