Role Overview

University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group are seeking an experienced Band 6 Anatomical Pathology Technician (APT) to join the Pathology Department at Kettering General Hospital on a fixed-term agency placement.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of a professional, high-quality mortuary and post mortem service, ensuring compliance with HTA regulations, Trust policies, and Coroner requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with and perform hospital and Coroner's post mortem examinations

Prepare and reconstruct deceased patients following post mortem

Maintain mortuary facilities, equipment, and infection prevention standards

Ensure compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) regulations

Support body receipt, storage, identification and release processes

Liaise sensitively with clinical teams and bereavement services

Maintain accurate documentation and mortuary records

Participate in on-call rota where required

Essential Requirements

Proven NHS experience as an Anatomical Pathology Technician

Experience assisting with hospital and Coroner post mortems

Knowledge of HTA standards and mortuary governance

Relevant Level 3/4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (or equivalent)

Ability to work autonomously within a mortuary setting

Flexible to support early starts and on-call cover
