About the Role

I am currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Practitioner to join the Looked After Children (LAC) Team in Luton. This is an excellent opportunity to take a lead role in supporting children and young people in care, driving positive outcomes and ensuring stability in their placement journeys.
As a Senior Practitioner within the LAC team, you will play a vital role in managing complex cases, mentoring junior staff, and maintaining high standards of practice in line with statutory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of looked after children, including complex and high-risk cases
  • Lead on care planning, permanence planning, and pathway planning for children and young people
  • Chair and contribute to statutory reviews, ensuring compliance with legislation and timescales
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to less experienced social workers
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies, foster carers, and families to achieve best outcomes
  • Ensure all recording and reporting is accurate, timely, and in line with local authority standards
  • Promote safeguarding and the welfare of children at all times

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Looked After Children services
  • Proven experience managing complex caseloads and court work
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
  • Experience of supervising or mentoring staff is highly desirable
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and communication skills
