Consultant Social Worker l CIC/LAC - Suffolk
Suffolk County Council is currently seeking an experienced Consultant Social Worker to join their Children in Care (CIC) team based in Ipswich.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior practitioner with strong CIC and supervisory experience to step into a leadership-focused locum role.
Role Details:
- Position: Consultant Social Worker - Children in Care
- Location: Beacon House, White House Rd, Ipswich, IP1 5PB
- Rate: £42 per hour
- Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days per week in the office)
About the Role:
You will be working within the Ipswich North and East & Coastal CIC team, supporting children in care proceedings, long-term care, and those progressing towards permanence.
As a Consultant Social Worker, you will:
- Support the Team Manager with oversight, supervision, and development of social workers
- Provide guidance on complex cases and step in where urgent support is required
- Hold a small caseload where necessary
- Undertake direct work with children, including capturing their wishes and feelings
- Complete life story work and produce life story books
- Write and review care plans in line with children's needs
- Prepare reports for CIC reviews and court proceedings
- Work collaboratively with carers, families, and multi-agency professionals (IROs, Guardians, Health, Education)
Essential Requirements:
- Previous experience within a Children in Care team
- Strong experience in care proceedings
- Experience supervising social workers
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (due to travel to rural placements)
