Shape the Future of Family Help Services

Southend-on-Sea City Council is looking for a UKCP Registered Family & Systemic Psychotherapist to join its innovative Multi-Disciplinary Family Help Service as part of the Families First transformation programme.

This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape a developing service while delivering specialist systemic psychotherapy and trauma-informed interventions to children, young people, and families facing complex challenges. Working closely with Social Workers, Family Help Teams, and multi-agency partners, you will play a key role in improving outcomes, reducing risk, and supporting children to remain safely within their families wherever possible.

The Role

You will:

  • Deliver specialist systemic psychotherapy and trauma-informed interventions to children and families.
  • Provide expert consultation, guidance, and reflective practice to practitioners and managers.
  • Lead and support high-quality risk assessments, safety planning, and safeguarding interventions.
  • Work with families affected by domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health difficulties, and complex safeguarding concerns.
  • Promote systemic, strengths-based, and evidence-informed practice across Children's Services.
  • Contribute to service development and the embedding of systemic principles across the organisation.

Essential Requirements

✅ Degree/Masters in Family & Systemic Psychotherapy

UKCP Registration as a Family & Systemic Psychotherapist

✅ AFT-accredited qualifying training

✅ Significant experience working with children, young people, and families

✅ Strong safeguarding, child protection, risk assessment, and multi-agency working experience

✅ Excellent communication, consultation, and relationship-building skills
