Key Tasks of the Post:

  1. You will achieve these objectives by:
  • Carrying out other inspections under a wide spectrum of allied legislation, covering subject areas such as:
    • Public Safety;
    • Demolition;
    • Dangerous Structures;
    • Scaffolding Permit Applications.
  • Providing formal supervision to those members of the team registered as RBIs at classes below your own registration. To help, guide, advise and mentor these team members to assist them in their progression through the RBI registration classes. There may be a requirement to participate in an out of hours response to dangerous structure call outs, for which a separate payment is made.
  • Being aware of the need to constantly market the Local Authority service in the face of increasing private sector competition, taking an active role in any local, regional or national marketing initiatives.
  • Maintaining all administrative data recording systems in order that detailed case histories can be built up for every project and also accurate performance indicator information can be assimilated.
  • Liaising with allied professionals within the Authority as a whole and also with external bodies such as the Fire Authority, Northumbrian Water etc. on a daily basis.
  • Constantly updating oneself with changes in legislation, British Standards, reports from trade associations etc. to enable continued effective application of legislation and providing related advice to any service user.
  • Carrying out enforcement actions in accordance with established procedures, under all associated legislation, including the possible attendance at court.
  • Responding to general constructional and related enquiries from whatever source the enquiry comes.
  • Being aware of corporate strategies such as Performance Management, Employee development etc. and ensure that all related tasks are carried out within any set timescales.
  • Deputising for the Principal Building Control Surveyor as and when required.

  1. You will undertake specific team-based tasks as may be allocated to you from time to You will:
  • Be aware of the aims and objectives of the team and also the wider Public Protection service. You will understand how the tasks allocated to you are part of the achievement of these aims. You may be asked to assist other teams within the Public Protection service when specific priorities are identified.
  • Take an increasingly active role subject to training and experience, as identified and directed, in assisting with project-based work and include advice to other local authority teams in relation to constructional matters.
  • Be aware of corporate initiatives such as performance management, employee development etc.
  • Be aware of the need to constantly market the service in the face of private sector competition, taking an active role in any local regional or national marketing initiatives.
