We are currently recruiting for an experienced Child Protection Chair to join Nottingham City Council on an ongoing agency contract. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced safeguarding professional to play a pivotal role in protecting children and ensuring high-quality multi-agency practice.

About the Role

As a Child Protection Chair, you will independently chair Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences, ensuring that safeguarding procedures are followed, children's voices are heard, and effective multi-agency plans are developed to achieve the best outcomes for children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently chair Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences.
  • Ensure the views, wishes, and feelings of children and families are represented throughout the conference process.
  • Scrutinise assessments and Child Protection Plans to ensure they are evidence-based and outcome-focused.
  • Provide professional challenge where practice falls below expected standards and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Monitor the progress and effectiveness of Child Protection Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children, and local safeguarding procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with social care, education, health, police, and partner agencies.
  • Produce accurate, timely conference records and clear decision-making documentation.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
  • Significant post-qualifying experience in child safeguarding.
  • Proven experience chairing complex multi-agency safeguarding meetings.
  • In-depth knowledge of child protection legislation and statutory guidance.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
