Leicester City Council is currently recruiting two Level 2 Qualified Social Workers to join their Child in Need Service, with a focus on Initial Viability Assessments. These roles aim to identify and assess family members or connected persons who may care for children unable to live with their parents-ensuring a safe, loving, and permanent home within their family network.

Key Details:

  • Pay Rate: £35 per hour (Umbrella)

  • Contract Type: Full-time, 37 hours per week

  • Working Pattern: Monday to Friday

  • Flexible Working: Hybrid model - combination of remote and office-based work

Role Overview:
As a key member of the Child in Need team, you will:

  • Carry out Initial Viability Assessments for connected persons or prospective Special Guardians.

  • Explore extended family networks to support children through pre-proceedings or care proceedings.

  • Work under tight court deadlines, ensuring robust, evidence-based assessments.

  • Attend and contribute to Looked After Children Reviews, Permanency Planning Meetings, and Legal Planning Meetings.

  • Deliver child-centred, trauma-informed interventions using the Signs of Safety framework.

The team works closely with legal services, fostering services, and social work colleagues to support permanence and stability for vulnerable children.

What We're Looking For:

  • Social Work qualification with Social Work England registration

  • Experience working with Looked After Children and within care proceedings

  • Confidence conducting connected persons assessments and producing court-ready reports

  • Solid knowledge of relevant legislation, child protection policy, and minimum standards

  • Strong interpersonal and time-management skills to manage a complex caseload
