CAFCASS is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated Family Court Advisor to join their Private Law team, focusing on first hearings and the Initial Assessment Stage (IAS). This key role ensures a consistent and child-focused response at the earliest stages of involvement in family court proceedings.

Pay rate :- £34.00 per hour (Umbrella)

Key Responsibilities: -

  • Initial Expert Review of Families:
    Undertake a comprehensive and expert review of all incoming families in private law cases. This includes assessing risks, identifying safeguarding concerns, and determining the most appropriate next steps for children and families involved in private law proceedings.
  • Timely and Clear Decision Making:
    Analyze cases in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, ensuring clear, timely, and well-informed decisions. This includes prioritizing cases, managing workloads, and making effective decisions within short timeframes.
  • Risk Assessment and Safeguarding:
    Identify and assess safeguarding concerns, ensuring that children's safety and well-being are prioritized throughout the legal process. This involves evaluating family dynamics, histories, and any potential risks to the child.
  • Collaborative Working with Partners:
    Collaborate closely with internal teams, external partners, and agencies to gather relevant information and make informed decisions. This may include liaising with social services, legal teams, and other professionals involved in the case.
  • Direct Work with Families:
    At times, undertake direct work with families, engaging with them to gather vital information, support early interventions, and promote positive outcomes for children and parents.
  • Writing Assessments and Recommendations:
    Prepare clear, concise, and professional assessments for the court, providing recommendations and expert advice on the next steps. This includes identifying immediate safeguarding issues and suggesting child-focused and proportionate actions for early judicial decision-making.
  • Court Attendance and Advice:
    Attend family court hearings as required to offer expert advice, provide clarity on assessments, and guide judicial decision-making. This may include providing verbal testimony and further professional recommendations during hearings.
  • Child-Centered Focus:
    Ensure that the welfare and best interests of the child are at the forefront of all decisions, assessments, and recommendations. This involves working in a child-centered, compassionate, and ethical manner while ensuring that children's voices are heard and considered throughout the process.
  • Support for Early Judicial Decision Making:
    Play a critical role in supporting early judicial decision-making by providing clear and succinct advice to the court, particularly with respect to safeguarding concerns, the child's needs, and the most appropriate next steps in the legal process.
  • Professional Development:
    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of family law, safeguarding protocols, and CAFCASS guidelines to ensure assessments and recommendations align with best practice and legal requirements.
  • Case Management and Documentation:
    Ensure that all case documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and submitted in a timely manner. This includes maintaining detailed records of assessments, recommendations, communications with families, and other relevant information.
  • Early Intervention and Proactive Support:
    Act as an advocate for early intervention, promoting strategies and actions that prevent further escalation of issues and support families in the most effective and least intrusive manner possible.

Essential Requirements:

  • Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent
  • At least 3 years' experience as a social worker within children's services
  • Social Work England Registration
  • Driving license and access to own vehicle
