Social Worker - Children in Care - Suffolk County Council - Bury St Edmunds - £37 to £39 per Hour
Suffolk County Council is currently recruiting for an experienced Social Worker - Children in Care to join their dedicated Children in Care Team based in Bury St Edmunds. This is an excellent locum opportunity for a skilled Children's Social Worker with strong experience in Looked After Children (LAC), Children in Care, Care Proceedings, Permanency Planning, and Court Work.
This role offers competitive rates of £37 to £39 per hour, hybrid working, and the opportunity to work within a supportive Local Authority focused on achieving the best outcomes for children and young people.

Hybrid Working - 3 Days Office Based Per Week

Key Responsibilities
- Act as the case responsible Social Worker for children in care proceedings and children in long-term care placements
- Manage cases for Looked After Children (LAC) and children where permanent alternative care planning is progressing
- Undertake direct work with children in care to understand their lived experiences, wishes, and feelings
- Complete life story work and produce high-quality life story books for children and young people
- Write, review, and update children's care plans based on assessed needs and permanency planning
- Prepare reports for Children in Care Reviews, statutory meetings, and court proceedings
- Work closely with foster carers, parents, extended family networks, and connected persons
- Liaise effectively with Independent Reviewing Officers (IROs), Guardians, Health professionals, Education teams, and other partner agencies
- Support permanency planning, placement stability, and positive long-term outcomes for children
- Maintain accurate case recordings and ensure compliance with statutory guidance and local authority procedures
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
- Minimum 3+ years Post Qualified Experience within Children's Services in a UK Local Authority
- Strong experience within Children in Care / Looked After Children (LAC) Teams
- Experience of Care Proceedings, Court Work, Permanency Planning, and Care Planning
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (essential due to travel requirements)
- Strong report writing, assessment, and multi-agency working skills
