Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council is currently looking for experienced Social Workers to join their Assessment Team.


Pay Rate: Up to £39.00 per hour (Umbrella).
Location: Piccadilly, Stockport

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake timely and high-quality assessments of children and families in line with statutory duties and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Manage a varied caseload, ensuring child-focused practice and effective risk assessment.
  • Carry out Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries, identifying levels of need and risk.
  • Develop and implement outcome-focused child and family plans to improve safety and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies including health, education, police, and other professionals to safeguard children.
  • Build strong, effective relationships with children, young people, and families to support positive change.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and evidence-based reports for case conferences, court proceedings, and reviews.
  • Maintain up-to-date case records and ensure compliance with legislation, policy, and professional standards.
  • Participate in strategy discussions, child protection conferences, and multi-agency meetings.
  • Make informed recommendations regarding child protection, care proceedings, and early help interventions.
  • Contribute to service improvement and uphold best practice in safeguarding and social work delivery.

Essential Requirements:

  • Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent
  • At least 3 years' experience as a social worker within children's services
  • Social Work England Registration
  • Driving license and access to own vehicle
