Outstanding Social Work Opportunity - Family Safeguarding Team (Stevenage North)

Hertfordshire County Council is seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join the Family Safeguarding Team in Stevenage North on a locum basis. Key Role Information

  • Location: Stevenage North, Hertfordshire
  • Pay Rate: £39 per hour (Umbrella)
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid working - 3 days per week in office
  • Caseload: Under 20 cases per Qualified Social Worker
  • Parking: Free on-site parking available
  • Equipment: iPad provided for mobile and flexible working
  • Touchdown locations available across the county for remote working flexibility

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake care planning, assessments, and statutory reviews
  • Deliver high-quality welfare reports for child protection conferences and court proceedings
  • Work within the Family Safeguarding model, supporting multi-agency interventions
  • Engage directly with children and families to improve outcomes and reduce risk
  • Participate in regular supervision (frequency dependent on case risk)
  • Apply motivational interviewing techniques (full training provided by the council)
  • Work closely with partner agencies to ensure effective safeguarding practice

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration (SWE)
  • Minimum 3 years post-qualified experience in children's social work (England Local Authority)
  • Strong experience in statutory social work including CIN, CP, and care planning
  • Experience producing court reports and attending legal proceedings
  • Must be a driver with access to own vehicle
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced safeguarding environment
