Family Court Adviser - Private Law Team | CAFCASS | Durham

About the Role

CAFCASS is seeking an experienced Family Court Adviser to join its Private Law Team in Durham on an ongoing agency contract. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a nationally respected organisation, representing the best interests of children and providing high-quality advice to the Family Courts.

Location: Durham (DH8 5QJ)
Contract: Ongoing Agency Contract

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of private law proceedings involving children and families.
  • Undertake safeguarding assessments and analyse risk to support informed decision-making.
  • Prepare high-quality reports for the Family Court within statutory timescales.
  • Provide independent recommendations that promote the welfare and best interests of children.
  • Work collaboratively with children, families, legal professionals, and partner agencies.
  • Attend court hearings and contribute professional evidence where required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records in line with CAFCASS policies and statutory guidance.

Requirements

  • Social Work England registration.
  • Significant post-qualifying experience within Children's Services.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and family court processes.
  • Experience completing complex assessments and producing court reports.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to manage a demanding caseload while working effectively with multiple agencies.
