Business Rates Officer - Revenues & Benefits

Location: Haringey (Hybrid, where applicable)
Rate: £27.91 per hour (UMB)

Are you an experienced Business Rates Officer looking for your next contract opportunity? We are recruiting on behalf of a London Borough for a skilled professional to join their Revenues & Benefits team, helping to deliver an efficient and accurate Business Rates service.

The Role

You will be responsible for the end-to-end administration of Business Rates and BID Levy accounts, ensuring all work is processed accurately and within required timescales. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical knowledge and experience of dealing with complex business rates cases.

Key Responsibilities
Process all aspects of Business Rates and BID Levy from billing through to recovery and enforcement.
Determine the correct liable party and ensure all relevant notices are issued promptly.
Assess eligibility for reliefs and exemptions.
Provide professional advice and guidance to customers, businesses, and external partners.
Review reliefs and exemptions to maximise council income and help identify and reduce fraudulent claims.
Gather evidence and support Liability Order Hearings.
Calculate and process refunds for overpayments.
Prepare reports and recommendations for write-off cases.
Handle complex Business Rates enquiries and casework.
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with legislation and council procedures.

About You

Were looking for someone who has:

Previous experience working within a Local Authority Business Rates team.
Strong knowledge of Business Rates legislation, billing, recovery, reliefs, and exemptions.
Experience managing complex Business Rates cases.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately under pressure.
Good IT skills and experience using Revenues & Benefits systems.
An understanding of Data Protection, Health & Safety, and Equal Opportunities legislation.
